Did you know there are over 1.48 million active 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations in the United States? As I have been building my knowledge of this market and its connection to public procurement, I have found myself coming back often to the National Council of Nonprofits impact report from a few years ago (chart above).
That report dug into the size, shape, and funding sources of non-profits as part of an effort to define non-profit impact.
In that report, they found that almost 32 percent of the funding for non-profits was from Government Grants and Contracts - and that was before ARPA and recent grant programs, so that number is a floor.
While only 8 percent of non-profits are over 1m in annual revenue from the report, all non-profits with government funds must have great procurement and contract management processes to stay within the letter and the spirit of their awards.
I'll write more on this in the coming weeks.
